Privacy Policy
How SlimeServers collects, uses and protects your personal information.
1. Overview
SlimeServers ("we", "us", "our") operates the forum at slimeserversau.com, a community Discord server, and a set of Minecraft game servers (collectively, "our services"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our services, how we use and protect it, and what rights you have over it.
SlimeServers is a small Australian community project. We are not currently subject to the Australian Privacy Act 1988 because we fall below the $3 million annual turnover threshold, but we voluntarily follow the spirit of the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) because we believe it's the right thing to do.
2. What information we collect
Information you provide
- Account details: username, email address and password when you register. Your password is never stored in plain text — it is hashed using a one-way algorithm (bcrypt).
- Profile content: anything optional you add to your profile — avatar, signature, bio, location, website.
- Posts and messages: public posts, topics, group chats, private messages, and any attachments you upload.
- Linked accounts: Discord ID and username if you link your Discord; Minecraft UUID and username if you link your Minecraft account.
- Purchase details: if you buy a VIP package, we record the tier, date, amount and a transaction reference from our payment processor. We do not see or store your full card details — those are handled by the payment processor directly.
Information collected automatically
- IP address: recorded when you register, log in and post. Used for moderation, rate-limiting and preventing ban evasion.
- Browser and device information: user-agent string, approximate screen size and language, to render the site correctly.
- Session cookies: a single cookie that keeps you logged in. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are used.
- Server activity logs: if you use our game servers, your in-game activity (such as chat, login/logout events and staff actions that affect you) may be logged for moderation purposes.
3. How we use your information
- To operate the forum, Discord bot and Minecraft servers.
- To authenticate you and keep your session secure.
- To enforce our Community Rules and moderate content.
- To prevent abuse, spam and ban evasion.
- To process VIP purchases and deliver the perks you've bought.
- To send you account-related emails (password resets, email verification) and — only if you've opted in — community digest and notification emails.
- To respond to you when you contact us.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to any third party, ever.
4. Cookies and local storage
We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in, protect forms against cross-site request forgery (CSRF), and remember basic session state. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
Your browser's local storage is also used by the forum software to remember UI preferences (such as your chosen theme, layout and skin) and to cache draft posts so you don't lose them if the page reloads.
5. Third-party services
Some features rely on third-party services. When you use those features, information is shared with the provider in question, under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Discord — if you link your Discord account or join our Discord server, Discord receives your interactions with our bot and server. See Discord's Privacy Policy.
- Payment processor — VIP purchases are handled by a reputable payment processor (e.g. Stripe). Your card details go directly to them and never touch our servers. They share only a transaction reference and status with us.
- Hosting — our services run on commercial hosting providers. These providers have physical access to the servers but do not access your data.
- Email delivery — outbound emails (password resets, notifications) are delivered via Google's Gmail SMTP service. Emails in transit are handled by Google under their own Privacy Policy.
6. Data retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to operate our services, enforce our Community Rules and keep our community safe. In practice that means:
- Your account, profile and posts are kept while your account is active.
- If you delete your account, your profile and posts are either removed or anonymised.
- Moderation records (warnings, mutes, bans) and associated technical information such as IP addresses may be retained indefinitely so we can investigate abuse, handle appeals and prevent ban evasion.
- Where we hold backups, information you have deleted may persist in those backups until they are overwritten in the normal course of operations.
7. Your rights and choices
You can, at any time:
- Access your data — view your profile, posts, messages and settings directly in your account.
- Correct your data — edit your profile, email and preferences under Settings.
- Delete your account — email admin@slimeserversau.com to request account deletion. Once deleted, your username, profile details and personal information are removed. Your existing posts remain on the forum with your authorship detached, so that conversations other members have taken part in stay readable.
- Opt out of emails — unsubscribe from digest and notification emails via the link in any email, or by switching them off under Settings. This does not stop essential account emails (password resets, verification).
- Request a data export — email admin@slimeserversau.com and we'll send you a copy of the personal information we hold on you, typically within 30 days.
8. Security
Our site is served exclusively over HTTPS. Passwords are stored using a strong one-way hash (bcrypt). Database access is restricted to the application and a small number of trusted administrators. We apply security updates to our forum, server operating system and dependencies regularly.
No online service is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data breach that is likely to affect you, we will notify you by email and by a public announcement on the forum as soon as reasonably possible.
9. Children's privacy
SlimeServers is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has registered with us, please contact us and we will remove the account.
Users aged under 18 should obtain a parent or guardian's permission before making any VIP purchase.
10. International transfers
Our servers and database are hosted in Australia. Some third-party services we rely on (e.g. Discord, payment processors) operate internationally and may process data in the United States or Europe. By using those features, you acknowledge that your information may be processed outside Australia under those providers' own privacy frameworks.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as our services evolve or as laws change. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where practical, post an announcement on the forum. Continued use of our services after a change means you accept the revised policy.
